Heathrow Receives A Boost In Passenger Numbers

Heathrow reported its business and traffic commentary for August, which saw twice as many passengers in August than the same month in 2021.

The Airport saw a total of 6 million people pass through its terminals, up from 2.2 million passengers in August 2021. However, this figure was still below the pre-coronavirus total of 7.7 million in August 2019.

UK passenger numbers increased 25% to 247,000, and EU numbers rallied a staggering 111.6% to 2.1 million passengers.

Furthermore, Heathrow saw a total of 50.2 million passengers from September 2021 to August 2022, a 319% rise for the airport.

Heathrow has faced issues with its flight cancellations and delays in recent months. However, it has continued to cap the number of daily departing passengers due to staff shortages, which resulted in reduced flight schedules.

Additionally, Spanish tourism is reported to be reaching pre-pandemic levels thanks to a strong rebound in domestic tourism. A total of 9 million customers visited Spain in July, nearing its pre-covid levels.

International tourism is still 10% below 2019 levels. However, the increased tourism accounted for 13.3% of the total number of registered workers in the country and is one of the sectors contributing most to job creation.
